Josh "the Animal" Dennis
Josh is the founder of the Animal Camp.

Joe Kulak
Don't be confused, he's not smoking a hookah in this picture. Current record holder for the Grand Slam and Last Great Race. This picture is of Joe at the finish line tent of the 2008 Leadville 100 taken by a buddy, Peter Bawkin (who did a double Hardrock two years ago). Joe flew in Friday, got to Leadville Friday night, ran Saturday, and red-eyed back home on Sunday. Blood-oxygen was 78% at the finish. The doc didn't like that and told him to lay down and get some oxygen. It was heaven!
"Crazy Phil" Rosenstein
The above article about sums up Phil's approach to ultrarunning.
Johnny "Phenom" Dennis
First official trail race was the Mohican 100. 'Nuff said.
Dan "Half Man, Half Amazing" Rosenberg
Do you read the Philly Inquirer?
Sherpa John Lacroix
Severe trenchfoot at the Massanutten Mountain Trail 100 in 2009 did not stop Sherpa John, who ran over 50 miles with his feet looking like this. His account of the race: "Bottom line... I finished."
Check out Sherpa's take on life, trail running and whatever other hallucinations he may have while running at

Frank "the Tank" Gousman
Frank is a 54-year-old resident of Fanwood, New Jersey. He has been running competitively
since 1992. His first ultra was in 2004 and he has completed five 100-mile races.

Steve "Powder" Wehrle
Thinks a relaxing vacation is hiking the Long Trail alone and unsupported. Actually, that does sound relaxing.

AJ "AJinator" Johnson
A cardiologist once told AJ that his running days were over due to what the doctor believed to be a heart defect (incorrect diagnosis). AJ replied, "Listen doc, I have a 50-mile race in two weeks- if I die, you're right, if I live, I'm right. Either way, you've lost a patient."

Tim "Hydration" Ellis
Still not over the cancellation of the Jay Mountain Marathon. Therapy, in the form of running a 100-miler, is working, though.
AT THE ANIMAL CAMP, THERE IS ALSO ALWAYS ROOM FOR RUNNERS LOOKING TO TRAIN HARD, GET IN GREAT SHAPE AND HAVE A TON OF FUN WHILE DOING BOTH. WE CALL THESE FOLKS PART OF THE ANIMAL CAMP CREW.
